I am a 66 yr widow, step-mom, aunt, great-aunt, grandma, mother-in-law, daughter, step-daughter, sister, step-sister, sister-in-law, USMC veteran, retired telecom engineer, prayer associate and youth residential behavior care worker. These are all part of who I am today and who I will become as I continue my journey as a spiritual truth seeker.
Since my 30’s I have been drawn to helping children, I was never blessed with having any biological children but my life has been filled and blessed with nieces, nephews, step children and grandchildren whose lives I have been able to share. A few years ago I really started questioning my life and wanting it to mean more than just making money. I started studying with Unity School of Christianity, eventually leaving my corporate telecommunications job and becoming a prayer associate with Silent Unity. During that time I kept getting prayer calls for children in need, children in danger and felt the call to do more. I found a job in a residential facility for youth with behavioral challenges most of whom are in the foster care system. It was very different from anything I have ever done and I learned about an entirely different world then I have ever known – the world of a care giver.
In 2019, I was drawn to the presidential campaign of Marianne Williamson because of her vision for children in our society. When she dropped out I knew I needed to stay involved and advocate for children. I determined that I needed to narrow my focus because everything impacts our children – gun violence, hatred, racism, misogyny, discrimination, domestic abuse, failing public education, criminal justice, police reform, separation of church & state, health care and mental health care. It is overwhelming if you try to champion all of it. (https://wordpress.com/post/voteforkids.wordpress.com/733)
Prior to 2010 I mostly viewed myself as a republican I now identify as an independent.
I have come to believe that the best thing that any adult can do for children today is to pay attention to the local, county and state policies (politics). Everyone is so wrapped up in the national (presidential) election they don’t even know what it going on in their city, county or state unless it makes national news. I know that I never really paid much attention to the local candidates until now and I have been voting since I was 18. I am devoting this site and my blogs to local issues and local candidates because I believe that is where we the voters can make the most impact.
I will be continue to provide information and perspectives on issues that are important to ALL children. My focus will be on public schools and youth behavioral facilities. I will encourage discourse and discussion on how we can better support our Missouri children.
