There are a lot of great candidates on the ballot for the upcoming June 20, 2023, Kansas City Council Election. I have learned a lot about our city government from following along with this election.
I know many of us feel like our city council people are not responsive to our needs. The best way to fix this is to VOTE!!!
Less than 25% of Kansas City voters voted in the last mayor and city council election, which means 75% did not express who they wanted to represent their needs in the council.
We need more balance in Kansas City, we need representatives who understand the need to invest in the communities and the people who live there to truly thrive.
No matter how many tax breaks are given, businesses do not want to move into a city with crumbling infrastructure that makes it unnavigable.
We need more candidates focusing on ALL of our neighborhoods, not just business districts or where strong neighborhood associations are located.
These are the candidates that I personally feel are the best for Kansas City families, children, and neighborhoods. Most of these candidates prioritizes people over profits and others have been in positions to advocate for children.
District 2 at Large Jenay Manley
Jenay is a mother who has struggled to support herself and her children. She has tremendous positive energy and understands the importance of having safe thriving communities for our children to grow up in.
District 3 At-Large Melissa Patterson Hazley
Melissa is an advocate for youth and a role model for young women. She is educated, caring and compassionate and one of her goals is “making certain youth are empowered and youth voices are valued.”
District 4 At Large Crispin Rea
Crispin has a lifetime of experience working with people in need from watching his mother serve to being in the Special victims unit prosecuting those who sexually and physically abuse women and children.
District 5 At-Large Michael Kelley
Michael is full of energy and a true desire to make things better for all Kansas Citians. I cannot put it any better then he puts it himself.
“The decisions we make will have a major impact today and tomorrow. We’re at a critical juncture on key issues such as health, infrastructure, housing, and the climate. The decisions we make will have a major impact today and tomorrow. If you believe we have a responsibility to help our neighbors and build a Kansas City in which our children can thrive, I’m asking for your vote.”
District 6 Johnathan Duncan
Johnathan is all about community. I had forgotten how much community can make a difference. I am also a veteran and one of the things I really liked when I was serving was the sense of community. I also remember it from my childhood.
Working together with city council members like Johnathan I think we can begin to rebuild community in KC. Children thrive in community settings that are thriving.
