Missouri LT. Governor

WHAT DOES THE MISSOURI LT. GOVERNOR DO?

If you are like me you aren’t real sure what a Lt. Governor actually does beside sit around waiting for the Governor to need them. So I looked up some stuff to see what they do especially what associated with children. It looks like the mostly participate in meetings. Here is a link that takes you to a list of all their responsibilities.

Here are a couple of the committees the Missouri Lt. Governor serves on that stuck out because of the focus on kids:

  • Missouri Community Service Commission (MCSC) – effects and administers the National and Community Service Act of 1993, and strives to make service and volunteerism a common expectation of all Missourians, with a special concentration on youth. (RSMo 620.586)
  • Parents as Teachers Program – acts as an advisor
  • Another big role is Work Group Appointments – Appoints one member to the work groups of the state board of education to develop learning standards in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, History and Governments, and Personal Finance. (RSMo 160.514)

There are 4 candidates running for Lt. Governor in Missouri

  • Mike Kehoe – 58 yrs old, 2018 appointed incumbent, SD6 2010-2018
  • Alissia Cannady – 41 yrs old, KC City Council 2015-2019
  • Bill Slantz – 62 yrs old, no previous public offices listed
  • Kelly Dragoo – 31 yrs old, no previous public offices listed

Mike Kehoe response to the question on most compelling policy changes refers to the global pandemic saying “To overcome these challenges we need leadership experience as it relates to job creation and economic opportunities.” His answer to his top 3 priorities are “to bring companies to the state, advocating for pro-family, pro-jobs policies and helping our entrepreneurs create opportunities for working Missourians.” I am not sure what he has done since he has been in office and honestly I did not even know his name. His responses along with other information I have seen, lead me to the conclusion that he is a believer in “take care of businesses (corporations) and they will take care of the worker” otherwise know as “trickle down”. This policy is a proven failure, business is about profit, business will provide the very least needed to have/keep workers and still make a profit. The only reason politicians keep on this track is because they are paid by businesses through campaign donations to keep it that way. Mike only filled out the Vote411 questionnaire and his web site doesn’t have an issues of visions page so I cannot tell if he is consistent in the statements above.

Alissia Cannady response to the question on most compelling policy changes “addressing gun violence and re-evaluating the children’s division of the Department of Family Services and whether they are effectively working together to stabilize families.” Her answer to his top 3 priorities are: “The health of Missourians. The health of our economy. Reducing the number of gun-related deaths of children and Black men.” Alissia is consistent in her answers to Ballotpedia and Vote411, those answers also line up with her web page Vision and Issues statements. She has worked hard to get where she is as a successful businesswoman, and she lists people as her priority every time. Vision statement “..need bold, sensible leadership in Jefferson City for our children, families, seniors, and veterans.”

Bill Slantz response to the question on most compelling policy changes “If you think we need a lieutenant governor, then maybe you don’t want to vote for me.” His answer to his top 3 priorities are: “I tell people that if they want a smaller government, get on board with us. If we start getting government too small, then hop off. Our train won’t be moving fast. It’s very hard to undo the government. That’s a train that just won’t stop.” Bill only filled out the Vote411 questionnaire. His web site is about reducing government regulations and his number one priority is abolishing the Lt. Governor position in Missouri. He has very interesting things to say about representation in Missouri. “We [his party] won’t elect a representative until we change how legislative seats are filled.  Neither will the Greens or the Constitution Party, or any other third party. And Republicans who vote in Democratic Party districts will continue to spin their wheels, as will Democrats who vote in Republican Party districts.”

Kelly Dragoo response to the question on most compelling policy changes “We need to continue to defend Missourians against the gerrymandering and voter suppression people are experiencing throughout the state and to begin taking the climate crisis seriously”. Her answer to his top 3 priorities are: “Worker’s rights. Medicare for all. Public transportation.” Kelly is consistent in her answers to Ballotpedia and Vote411, those answers also line up with her web page and Facebook. She is a dedicated advocate for that which she believes in.

We have some really good candidates running for Lt. Governor. Other than the incumbent I like parts of what each of them have to say and any of the non-incumbents would in my opinion be a step forward to the change so desperately needed in Missouri. I am compelled once again to provide some Missouri statistics that caused me to become so involved this election cycle:

There is only one candidate talking about all of these big issues in Missouri and that is Alissia Cannady!

My Ranked Choice Voting:

  1. Alissia Cannady – an advocate who sees what it important
  2. Kelly Dragoo – an advocate, focus is on climate, important but not priority
  3. Bill Slantz – Good ideas on a lot of stuff and an advocate
  4. Mike Kehoe – Profit and economy over everything

I am a born and raised Missourian who is so appalled at what is going on in MY state. I am speaking up, I am getting involved and I am looking for people to start making changes to get us to where we are all PROUD to live and raise our children. We can’t fix it in one election or overnight, but we can start making the changes needed to turn things around.

I am an advocate for children. I believe that we have to make children a priority in our society allowing all children to feel safe and be free to learn, explore, live and thrive. Children are the future and it is up to all of us to make sure they are able to meet their full potential. ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED ARE MINE BASED ON MY LIFE EXPERIENCES.
