Missouri State Senate District 7 covers Kansas City, Lee’s Summit and Grandview in Jackson County. It includes the school districts of
Unified School Districts: Center 58, Grandview C-4, Hickman Mills C-1, Kansas City 33 and Lee’s Summit R-VII. Here is a link to the map https://www.zipdatamaps.com/politics/state-level/district/map-of-missouri-state-senate-district-007. Jason Holsman was the senator of this district from 2012 until he was appointed to the Missouri Public Service Commission in January 2020. There are 2 candidates on the ballot to fill this seat. I will provide what information I have along my take on who would do the best job advocating for the children in this district and in our state.
The 2 candidates are:
- Greg Razer – current Missouri State Representative, District 25
- Nathan Kline – Director’s Executive Assistant, KCMO City Planning & Development Department
I gathered information from Ballotpedia, VOTE411 Voter Guide, KCUR and the candidates websites.
Greg Razer is all over the place addressing different issues in different settings which is normal for a politician. Unfortunately his campaign website does not have an Issues section with his stance on all the pressing issues facing us. Statement on main page of website is “In this age of political nastiness, we need leaders who are thoughtful, informed, engaged, and approachable. I want to learn and search for solutions, not simply the next soundbite.” On KCUR he said that making sure Medicaid expansion was rolled out effectively was top priority. Vote411 Voter Guide lists his top priority is investing in the states future by properly funding k-12. He has been on Budget, Education and Transportation committees while serving has District 25 representative and has sponsored many bills including equal rights, gun sales and insurance. Greg is a lifelong Missouri resident now living in Kansas City.
Nathan Kline only has a page on his party website which promotes the party priorities. His reponses on Ballotpedia and Vote411 Voter Guide are the same. His top priority is the Climate Change crises, followed by Corruption and Income inequality. He has ran for numerous offices in the Kansas City area and is a lifelong Kansas City resident.
So I like both of these candidates. I think either one of them would bring a fresher voice into the Missouri Senate and represent our district well. Both have been in the political arenea for several years with Greg winning his first election in 2016 for his current seat. Being a children’s advocate I think my deciding factor is that Greg lists investing in children (at least education) as a priority for the future of Missouri. Additionally since the voters did improve Medicaid expansion which will really help youth in poverty situations I am going to go with Greg Razer.
I encourage you to check out any statements I have made if you have questions.
PLEASE VOTE FOR THE CHILDREN THEY CANNOT VOTE FOR THEMSELVES!
