Why we need to vote

With so much attention on the Presidential elections many people lose site of the importance of voting for your local, county and state offices. The people in these offices do have a bigger impact to your daily lives than many realize. These are the people who decide what your tax money is spent on and what policies are going to be implemented.

As I started looking into what is going on in the state of Missouri I found some statistics that make me believe we need to make some changes.

Missouri rankings:
• Population – 18th
• Average Income – 40th
• Poverty rate – 19th (13.2%)
• Education – 27th
• Healthcare – 41st
• Kids count – 30th
• Human trafficking – 7th
• Imprisonment rate – 7th (687 adults per 100,000)
• Homicide rate – 2nd

Most dangerous cities in U.S.5th St Louis, 18th Kansas City, 40th Springfield, 51st Vinita Park

These statistics tell me something is not working in what we are doing. We have a very high imprisonment rate but it is not deterring crime. So what if we started putting more money and effort into raising the income level, education, healthcare and chldrens services instead of building new prisons so we can incarcerate more people?

I believe we need to start investing in the children now so they have chances for a better future that does not include prison. So I am researching the candidates running for office in 2020 that support that vision regardless of political affiliation.

I wll be providng the results of my research in the coming days and weeks.

We need to vote for our kids!! We are the only voice they have.

I am an advocate for children. I believe that we have to make children a priority in our society allowing all children to feel safe and be free to learn, explore, live and thrive. Children are the future and it is up to all of us to make sure they are able to meet their full potential. ALL OPINIONS EXPRESSED ARE MINE BASED ON MY LIFE EXPERIENCES.
